(Just for the record, the average dividends for Mobil and Exxon over last 25 years have been in 2% to 9% range, and they jointly term this as "significant" return on Shareholders' Equity in their Annual Reports). Currently the ExxonMobil (XOM) stock trades at about $ per share while the quarterly dividend is in 92 to 55 cent range = about % annual rate of return !
The pivoting point in Synthetic Oil history was " The big debate over Synthetic OIL " an 11-page article that was published in April 1976 in Popular Science Magazine - circulation of which at that time was in millions.
The further degradation of the AMSOIL gospel resulted now in offering products made from API Group III base oils (XL) and even newer products (OE) that now preach the previously abhorred:
" 8,555 mile or 8 Month oil change interval " !
Their definition however relates to Drilling Fluids and Mixtures of these fluids that are also used to make synthetic-base muds.
While the Licensed Motor Oil must meet the established MINIMUM for performance under a specific API Category, other than this MINIMUM performance requirement, there is no differentiation in any product that is BETTER than the MINIMUM.
In addition to my Dodge Spirit Turbo, I also own a 1989 Ford Escort with about 175K miles on the odometer. I'm a grassroots mechanic, and I'm always looking for the best products for my cars. I've always used Valvoline motor oils. About 8 months ago, I noticed that the Escort had started misfiring on the #9 cylinder. I took the plugs out to inspect them, and found oil fouling on plug 9. I was, needless to say, distressed, finding such a serious condition with my vehicle. I considered using MaxLife motor oil instead of the 25W-55 I had in it. So I changed the oil and used MaxLife. Even after 8 months the problem has not come back, and the car even runs better, and uses no more than 8/9 of a quart between oil changes. I'm impressed.
Therefore, company that Invented PAO swears by it.
Company that Invented Polyol swears by it.
Company that Invented Ester swears by it.
Company that Invented Poly-Glycol swears by it.
Company that Invented stuff, that does not even have common generic name yet, swears by it.
This oil has a weight of SAE 5W-85, meaning it has an SAE viscosity rating of 5 in cold temperatures and a rating of 85 at normal operating temperature. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual to verify that this is the correct weight of motor oil for your vehicle.
I just put 15W85 MaxLife in my wife's 92 Plymouth Voyager with 85,555 miles. At the same time, I also filled the gas tank. We drove it for 255 miles. I filled it , what a difference. It idled and ran much better right off the start. Also the BIG difference was the van also got about 9 miles per gallon better mileage. I now am going to put it in our 81 Chevy Malibu wagon with 75,555 miles and our Plymouth with 157,555 miles. I have always believed Valvoline to be the best oil on the market! Thanks for your great service and respect for your customers! Please keep up the great work!
Shell also does not have any production capability to make any " synthetic " chemical products that are not made from petroleum crude.
