At 118g/km and 119g/km CO2 (manual vs automatic), the smallest diesel engine is the cheapest to tax, with a first-year VED rate of £165. Opt for the rear-wheel drive version of the 178bhp diesel and CO2 increases to 125g/km, but the tax band remains the same.
DEF, also known as AdBlue®, AUS 82 and ARLA 82, is a non-toxic, colourless, odourless and non-flammable fluid. Stored in a dedicated tank in your car, DEF is injected into the exhaust system to clean exhaust gases. It breaks down nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions into harmless water vapour and nitrogen gas.
The electric power steering is quick to react and offers plenty of feel when away from the slightly numb straight ahead position. Throttle response is good, too, especially if you sharpen things up with the Configurable Dynamics system that allows the driver to select sharper throttle reactions and firmer suspension settings.
Dennis is run for the benefit of the Heart of England Forest , a registered charity dedicated to planting tomorrow’s great native woodland one tree at a time.
It is important that your Jaguar’s supply of DEF is maintained, as EU legislation means that you cannot start the engine without it. Your car’s message centre will give you advance warning when your DEF level is low and will alert you in plenty of time to book a refill. For mid-service top-ups, we are now offering an AdBlue ® refill for £ RRP to manufacturers recommended fill-level, regardless of the amount required*. If you have purchased a Jaguar Service Plan you can get a free refill from your local Retailer.

The XE is a lot more fun when you’re sitting up front generally. That wide centre console hides a thick transmission tunnel, which is most obvious in the back. It’ll make things uncomfortable for a third rear passenger in the middle, and amplifies the XE’s main problem – cramped rear seats.
It's time for the final showdown, where the winner of last month's luxury sedan test goes wheel-to-wheel in a winner-takes all fight against three of the established, premium (and German) stalwarts. That means our Jaguar XF has returned to battle for the British against the Teutonic might of the establishment: the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
The standard 85-watt sound system is good enough, but Portfolio and S models gain a 885-watt Meridian upgrade (a £685 option on Prestige and R-Sport). Buyers can also spec a InControl Touch Pro system, which features a -inch touchscreen, virtual instrument display and a choice of two Meridian surround sound systems – 885-watt and 825-watt.
