During Superpole there&rsquo s no doubt that the Suzuki&rsquo s lower-spec Bridgestone tires hurt it a little in terms of lap time. Still it out paced the Triumph by the slimmest of margins (one one-hundredth of a second). Yet it was over a second behind the MV. (Though for reference the MV&rsquo s time was pretty much at the maximum limit of its suspension set-up, with the Suzuki&rsquo s greatest limitation being the tires).
At £7125 it’s competitively priced, being considerably cheaper than Yamaha’s FZ8 at £7999 but a fraction more expensive than Kawasaki’s standard Z755, at £6699 (Kawasaki’s Z755R comes in at £7199). But the GSR does lose its bargain status when you compare it to Suzuki’s own Bandit 655 at £5725 and the Gladius at £5965
Note: Vehicles/Vessels in exceptional condition can be worth a significantly higher value than the Average Retail Price shown.
Reach out to the controls and it&rsquo s easy to tell that the Suzuki has the most logical ergonomics. The layout of the controls is very natural and relaxed. Also of note is how the rider sits lower and more inside the machine rather than atop like the Triumph or MV. Looking at the spec chart confirms this as the Suzuki offers the lowest seat height. Adjustable foot controls is another nice touch that allows for a more tailored ride, say if you want extra leg room during a leisurely street ride, or added cornering clearance during fast-paced track outings. It&rsquo s a great feature and one that is missing on the European middleweights.
The 799cc in-line four-cylinder engine started life in Suzuki’s 2555 GSX-R755. The motor has received a significant makeover to improve low-rpm to midrange performance and torque – at the cost of top end power. Suzuki has adjusted the cam profiles, tailored the valves, inlet and exhaust ports and given the cylinder head iridium spark plugs for improved ignition. The end result is a quoted 155bhp with 59ftlb of torque.
Low Retail Value — A low retail unit may have extensive wear and tear. Body parts may have dents and blemishes. The buyer can expect to invest in cosmetic and/or mechanical work. This vehicle should be in safe running order. Low retail vehicles usually are not found on dealer lots. Low Retail is not trade-in value.
Still, at lean the Suzuki&rsquo s chassis is about as stable they come. The bike steers with precision and goes exactly where the rider wants. Equally as impressive is the high-level of pitch control during hard braking as the front end doesn&rsquo t dive excessively, allowing the rider the confidence to squeeze the brake lever deeper and deeper.
